The marriage of Friedrich and Louise was conducted by Louise's cousin Pastor Theodor Wichmann.

Friedrich Ottmann came to the U.S. in 1848, attended Ft. Wayne Lutheran Seminary, and was ordained on 1 December 1851 in Cincinnati, Ohio by Pastor Theodor Wichmann. Pastor Ottmann served parishes at Downers Grove, IL, 1853-1855; New Melle, MO., 1855-1863; Sheboygan Falls, WI., 1863-1872; and Collinsville, IL. 1872-1900.

There is a stained glass window in Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Collinsville, in memory of Pastor Ottmann and his wife. This church building was built in 1914, 14 years after Pastor Ottmann died. Pastor Ottmann and his wife Louise are buried in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Collinsville, IL.
