MRS. P.W. BLANCHARD DEAD
Passed Away at Her Home in Harvard on January 22
Mrs. Cornelia Priscilla Blanchard, aged nearly 76 years, passed away at her home in this city at 5 o'clock last Sunday morning, Jan. 22, following a period of failing health and during which time her mental faculties were clear.
Deceased was born at Maquoketa, Iowa, on June 21, 1846, having received her education and taught school in Jackson county, Iowa. She was one of six children born to Dr. Charles Lee Usher and Nancy Denison Usher. Her parents came from Cleveland, Ohio, in 1840 and Dr. Usher was one of the pioneer physicians of that state. Born in a doctor's family and married to a physician, Mrs. Blanchard's life work was one of ministration to the needs of others.
On Jan. 1, 1866, she was united in marriage to Dr. Pliny W. Blanchard, who passed away in this city Dec. 15, 1915. To this union two daughters were born, Edna having passed away on April 21, 1904, and the other daughter, Nina, wife of John W. Blodgett of Lake Geneva, surviving. Several grandchildren, namely: Mrs. W. D. Beyer of Philadelphia, Pa., Dr. P.R,. Blodgett of Chicago Heights, Donald J. Blodgett of Woodstock, Margaret, Mark, Esther and Orrin Blodgett of Lake Geneva survive, as do three great grandchildren, Dorothea Beyer, Pliny Blodgett, Jr., and Donald Blodgett, Jr. A brother, Leaverett W. Usher, also resides at Maquoketa, Ia.
Funeral services for Mrs. Blanchard were held at the late home yesterday afternoon, Jan. 25, at 3 o'clock, Rev. N. A. Sunderlin of Woodstock officiating and speaking in the highest terms of the lady whom he had known for many years. Prayer was offered by Rev. C. H. Newham of the local Methodist church and musical selections were sung by Miss Adeline Brainard, accompanied by Mrs. Geo. Burney.
Burial took place in Mt. Auburn cemetery, the pall bearers being Harlan Hall of Beloit, J.W. Blodgett and four sons, Pliny, Donald, Mark and Orrin.
Among the relatives from out of the city in attendance at the funeral services were O. W. Blanchard and family of Delavan, Harlan Hall of Beloit, Mr and Mrs. Geo. Griffith and Donald Blodgett and family of Woodstock, J. W. Blodgett and family of Lake Geneva, Dr. Pliny Blodgett and family of Chicago Heights.
