This photograph was made from the site of old Sweetwater Station. The large, granite rock at center, left, is Independence Rock (Inscription Rock), where travelers along the Oregon Trail carved their names. Oregon Trail followed Sweetwater River. "This is where my great-grandfather Anson T. Prouty died of Cholera June 20 1852. He was buried somewhere in the general vicinity."
