QUILT PATCH

The photo was submitted by Judy Davis who wrote, "I thought you might like to have the attached photo to share with others who are following the Oertwig/Graf connection. The (hat band) label appears in an unfinished patchwork quilt made by my great aunt, Ida Schwan Gensmer, daughter of August Schwan, who immigrated with his parents and siblings from Rufen, Soldin, to Theresa, Dodge County, Wisconsin before moving to Good Thunder, Blue Earth County, Minnesota following his marriage.
The quilt came to me through the estate of my mother's sister some years ago. Since Ida and her husband, August Gensmer, moved from Good Thunder to Chippewa County, Minnesota following their own marriage, I would guess that the quilt was made sometime during the early years of the 1900s. (The quilt also includes a political campaign ribbon from the late 1800s, and a GAR ribbon of August's from an encampment around the same time.)Back to Graf Family | Nahausen Families | Our Family Main Page
