Family recipes submitted by descendants of Nahausen families

1 cup honey 1 cup sugar 2 eggs 1 tsp soda in 1 tsp. sour milk or vinegar

vanilla salt 3 cups flour

Mix together ingredients and drop on greased pan and bake.
Drop cookies are soft and chewy. For crisp cookies, roll
out on well-floured cloth and bake on greased pan.

PFEFFERNÜSSE
From Emma Schukar, daughter of Marie Sasse Schukar

1 ½ cups sugar 1 cup syrup ½ cup lard or other shortening 1 egg about 10 cups flour 1 tsp. soda

½ tsp salt 1 tsp. cinnamon ¼ tsp. cloves ¼ tsp. allspice ¼ tsp. cardamom

Mix together. Chill. Roll out in snakes the size of a pencil,
cut into pieces and bake at 375 about 15 minutes on greased
cookie sheet. Make several weeks early and store in a tin or
closed jar until Christmas.
