Alt Ruednitz is near Nahausen and Bernickow, home of the Sasses, Fellwocks, Oertwigs, and Schukars. It lies east of the Oder River, north-east of Berlin.
Matilda was the first of the Schukar children to be born after the family moved from Dodge County, Wisconsin, to Fayette County, Illinois. Family records give 19 September as her birthdate, but confirmation record at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Fayette Co., Illinois, gives her birthday as 13 September 1866, baptism date 16 October 1866.
William & Matilda apparently remained in Fayette County, Illinos, for a while after their marriage. By 1900 they were in St. Ferdinand, St. Louis County, Missouri. They moved to Amherst after Carl and Emma Schukar visited them at the time of the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis.

William died from pneumonia after an appendectomy at home, and less than a year later, Matilda died following cancer surgery. She died at Deshler, Thayer County, the very same day that her mother Mary Schukar died in Watertown, Buffalo County, Nebraska.
