Johann Friedrich Oertwig immigrated with the Jagow, Sasse, Fellwock, Stein and Schwan families, in 1846, from Hamburg to New York on the RUSSIA, arriving in New York on September 15 of that year.
He married 1) "Marie" Dorothea Fellwock, at the Jagow home, where the community held services before their church building was completed. She died in childbirth with their 5th child
Left with 4 little girls, Johann married 2) Maria Stein, on 03 April 1859 in Dodge County, Wisconsin.

    This family moved to Richland County, North Dakota in the 1880's. In their later years Louise and William lived with their daughter Matilda Braatz.
