Friedrich Jagow
Obituary

Published in the Mayville News (Dodge Co., WI), March 23, 1927:

Fred Jagow, a native of town Theresa, answered the Master's call last Thursday afternoon at about 2 o'clock, after suffering since Christmas, when he was confined to his home after having suffered a stroke. A second stroke followed about a week ago and a final stroke on Wednesday ended his long, useful life. He reached the age of 65 years.

Fred Jagow was born on July 21st, 1861, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Jagow, pioneer settlers of town Theresa. Here he grew up to young manhood and on March 4th, 1886 was united in marriage to Miss Emma Oertwig. The young couple settled on a farm, 1 1/2 miles southwest of this city, in town Theresa, and where they lived happily for over 40 years. Seven children were born to them. Their home life was an unusually happy one, although death entered their home twice, once when their first-born infant son, a twin, was taken from them and again when the other twin son, Otto, lost his life on the battle fields in France in 1918. Those surviving besides the sorrowing widow are: Gustav at Beaver Dam, Miss Meta at home, Bernard at West Bend, Reinhard at Anamoose, N.D. and Anton at home. Besides these he leaves 9 grandchildren, one brother, Wm. Jagow in town Theresa and one half-brother, Carl Sasse near Hustisford and five sisters, Mrs. Wm. Nickel and Mrs. Henry Schwertz in town Theresa, Mrs. Otto Lichtenberg at Hustisford and Mrs. Jul. Seifert and Mrs. Edmund Lichtenberg, both at Juneau.

Mr. Jagow was a man of excellent Christian character, one who tried to follow in the footsteps of his Master. He leaves a memory into which esteem and love is woven by all who had the good fortune to know him.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at one o'clock from the late home to the lower Emanuel church and considering the bad condition of the roads was very largely attended by relatives and friends from far and near. Interment was made in the family lot in the cemetery adjoining the church. The Rev. C. P. Thusius officiated.
