Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church is at 512 East Second Street in Grand Island. Construction began in 1894. The church is an excellent example of the Romanesque Revival style and is one of Nebraska's outstanding examples of small town stone church architecture. Trinity Church reflects subtle influences of German church architecture, primarily evident in its form, the cross shape, a favorite style among Germans. It seats 500 people and included the first pipe organ ever installed in Grand Island. It has beautiful stained glass windows. It is in the Nebraska Register of Historic Places.

Message on the back of the church picture postcard.
Dear Sister. I received your Easter Card and wish you the peace of Easter for the whole year. Thanks to God we are healthy and hope the same of you. Father will pick up Mother on Tuesday the 5th. Your Catherina

Catherine and William Scheffel, as well as her parents the Rieckmanns, lived in Grand Island. Apparently her mother was visiting the Muellers at Riverdale. Father (Christoph Rieckmann) was planning a trip to pick up his wife (Elisabeth Wolle Rieckmann) on the 5th, to return her to Grand Island.
