Both Gustav and Ottilie were confirmed at Immanuel, Amherst, on Palm Sunday, 18 March 1894.

Witnesses at their marriage: Carl Labs, Emma Czenkusch, Otto Hemmann, Magdalina Abels, Gottfried Hemmann, Luena Thiede, Emil Buehler, and Anna Labs.

When Gustav registered for the World War I draft in 1918, he was described as slender, medium height, blue eyes, and light brown hair. He farmed in Grant Township, Buffalo county, Nebraska. The house that Gus bought from Sears & Roebuck is still being lived in. It has been moved from its original location and now is on Sartoria Road east of Amherst.
